UCOL Wanganui Summer School

Here I am in March and I'm only just writing about this. Not because I haven't wanted to but because since returning to Wellington, I have been so inspired by the course to get paint onto canvas in my new found knowledge that I haven't found time to write. Michael Shepherd a full time Auckland Artist was my tutor and what an incredible insight and knowledge of oil painting this man has. I learnt so much in the 6 days, I was blown away. I never realised that I knew so little about oil painting. I didn't have much in the way of paint on canvas at the end of the course but I've made up for that on my return to Wellington. Michael has since become a close inspirational friend who I'm sure I can trust to give an honest appraisal of my work into the future. Basically I was using, extenders which I've found are not needed, the wrong brushes, the wrong colours and the wrong mindset. The painting I've done since returning, I can see already, have more life, more depth, better colour and I'm now looking at my past work wondering what was I thinking! I've had a recent contact through my Artfind website by Quimsy Gallery in Leed Street Wellington asking if i was interested in exhibiting so I'm pleased to announce that my exhibition will start on May 15th and that's what I'm working towards. I will post pictures soon of my time at UCOL and maybe a sneak preview of a few of my new paintings.
